The purpose of this research is to analyze the management of conservation and tourism programs in conservation-based theme parks in Yogyakarta and Central Java. This research is a qualitative evaluation research. The research was conducted on conservation-based recreation park in Yogyakarta and Central Java regions. Yogyakarta includes Gembira Loka Zoo, while Central Java includes Ndayu Park Sragen, Solo Zoo, Serulingmas Zoo Banyumas, Batang Dolphin Center, and Wersut Seguni Indonesia. Data collection was carried out by in-depth interviews, direct observation, and documentation. Selection of sources based on purposive sampling is aimed specifically at the managers of the conservation and marketing departments. Inductive analysis is used for processing raw data from the results of data collection to obtain concepts and models for implementing conservation-based recreational area management. The results showed 1) management forms in the form of animal parks, zoos, marine parks, safari parks, and animal sanctuaries, 2) tourism activities in the form of walk-through exhibits and petting zoos 3) tourism activities are the main source of sustainable conservation so that funding sources less especially during a pandemic, 4) management includes standardization of animal shows according to normal animal behavior; provision of facilities for clinics, laboratories and medical personnel as well as facilities for tourists that are environmentally friendly; standardization of animal houses includes exhibits, enclosures, breeding, and independent quarantine; involvement of the Natural Resources Conservation Agency, the Ministry of Environment and the Association of Zoos throughout Indonesia in the supervision of operational standards and human resource training; and providing educational media for tourists. However, it is necessary to collaborate with non-profit organizations in the field of conservation so that a common understanding is achieved in conservation management in the recreation industry, the availability of waste and waste recycling systems and the need to implement carrying capacity to avoid over tourism.
